Competitions

The Schools' Swimming Super League runs five competitions for schools in Sussex and Surrey:

  • South East Premier League (formerly the original 'Super League')

  • Sussex Cup and Plate Final

  • Junior Super League

  • Girls' Swim Series

  • Hurst Individual Swim Series

Sussex and Surrey schools

South East Premier League

 

The South East Premier League accepts 24 school swimming teams from West Sussex, East Sussex and Surrey.

The competition consists of four rounds which are held from September to March. Each Round has four Galas, which are held at different host schools during the school day. Six teams to compete in each gala.

The top eight teams across all rounds earn places to compete in the Sussex Cup Final.

The next best eight teams (places 8th to 16th across all Rounds) compete in the Sussex Plate Final.

The South East Premier League competition will lead to a national Schools' Swimming Super League Grand Cup Final, held at a special venue, where swimmers will compete for the UK Champions title.​​​

Sussex Cup and Plate Final

 

The Sussex Cup is the Cup Final for the South East Premier League (see above).


The top eight teams will compete in the Sussex Cup Final.​ 

The next best eight teams (places 8th to 16th across all Rounds) compete in the Sussex Plate Final.​​​

Junior League

 

​The Junior League competition offers primary school aged swimmers from Years 4, 5 and 6 to compete in a super league style events across three rounds.

All rounds of the Junior League will take place at the new Swimming Pool at Hurst College, West Sussex between January and April.

Girls' Swim Series

 

The Girls' Swim Series aims to encourage girls to take part in a league style competition. The event is smaller than the main South East Premier League and involves 12 schools competing across three rounds. 

The Series takes place at the new Swimming Pool at Hurst College, West Sussex between November and April.

Hurst Individual Swim Series

 

Hurst Individual Swim Series provides young swimmers with the opportunity to enter swimming events as an individual.

 

It is open to swimmers age 10 to 18 years old. The distances will be 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m.

 

The Series involves three rounds, each with three galas, which will take place over the course of the school year (events will be from October to May). All rounds will take place at the new Swimming Pool at Hurst College, West Sussex.

 

There is a small entry fee for this event: £5 per competitor per event.​​

ESSA Partnership

​​In 2026, the Schools' Swimming Super League created a partnership with the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) to expand the League across England.
