About the Super League
Aims
The aim of the Schools' Swimming Super League is to provide regular and purposeful school team swimming competitions across the South East of England.
The League provides both experienced club swimmers and developing swimmers the opportunity to experience a quality team competition with their school. Our hope is that the League will provide positive memories of swimming events for all the young swimmers involved.
Swimming Competitions
The Schools' Swimming Super League runs five competitions for schools across the South East of England (Sussex and Surrey).
In 2026, the League created a partnership with the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) to expand the competition across England. You can find out more about this partnership from the ESSA website.
The regional competitions will lead to a national Schools' Swimming Super League Grand Cup Final, held at a special venue, where swimmers will compete for the UK Champions title.
League Leaders
Mr Stephen Murphy (BSc)
Mr Murphy set-up the original Schools Swimming Super League in 2023. He continues to organise and run the newly-named South East Premier League competitions for young swimmers and schools in the South East of England. He also sits on the committee for the Schools Swimming Super League, which is now a national competition in partnership with the ESSA.
Mr Murphy is also the Master-in-Charge of Senior School Swimming (Years 9 to 13) at Hurst College in West Sussex. He joined the College as a Swimming Coach in 2019.
Mr Murphy has been coaching swimming for 16 years and has coached numerous national medalists and champions and a number of English, British and Irish junior international teams.
As a youth swimmer he swam at national level.
Mr Anthony Gray (BSc)
Mr Gray was part of the team who set-up the original Schools Swimming Super League in 2023. He works with Mr Murphy to run the newly-named South East Premier League competitions. Mr Gray also sits on the committee for the Schools Swimming Super League, which is now a national competition in partnership with the ESSA.
Mr Gray is a Swimming Coach at Hurst College, West Sussex.
Mr Gray has been a life-long swimmer and is a former member of the Worthing Swimming Club where he played Water Polo at Junior and Senior levels.
In 2015 he began teaching at private swim schools and shortly after co-founded the company Drenched Mini Water Polo, before becoming a swimming coach at Hurst College in 2018.
Mr Rob Kift (BEd)
Mr Kift was part of the team who set-up the original Schools Swimming Super League in 2023. He works with Mr Murphy to run the newly-named South East Premier League competitions.
Mr Kift is the Director of Sporting Partnerships at Hurst College, West Sussex and has worked at the College for over 30 years.
Mr Kift has a Bachelor of Education from Madeley College of Education (now part of Staffordshire University) and is passionate about all sports. He loves swimming and in his younger years he was a keen surfer.
